14km northwest of Paphos
and 3km north of Coral Bay lays the hillside village of Peyia. One
of the most popular residential villages, it has an attractive
cistern-fountain square, a number of good cafes and tavernas, and
all the amenities and facilities you need. Peyia village overlooks
the sea and the views down across the valley and along the coast are
simply stunning
Peyia (Pegeia)
Village, is one of the most
attractive and friendly villages in south-west Cyprus.
It
enjoys the advantages of both a quiet rural location, and glorious views of
the sparkling Mediterranean and the surrounding countryside. Pegeia is ideally located within Paphos
and is a wonderful location to explore this fantastic region
of Cyprus.
The beautiful
sandy beaches, the crystal blue sea and the peculiar rock
formations are unique to the area.
Local amenities
and sports include cycling, tennis, horse riding, paragliding,
go-karting, swimming and a variety of beach activities.
Safaris run
regularly to all parts of the island from here. Several
family-run taverns and restaurants serve excellent fresh food
at great value for money.
There are also rock-hewn tombs of the Roman period
scattered throughout the area. Pegeia is also well-known for
its fountains in the village square.
Close enough to
Paphos Town to allow guests to easily explore the area,
the village is located in a delightfully peaceful
place, only two kilometers (a five minute drive/taxi) from the wonderful beach
and resort area of Coral
Bay where there are also shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. The many travel agencies in the area can help you organize
a selection of great sightseeing trips. The best selection of
private villas are also available
for rent and purchase in this area.
Facilities in Pegia are mainly situated on the main street leading into Pegia Village. You will find a Chemist, a
butchers and a bakery - which serves delicious bread first
thing in the morning.
There are three banks in Pegeia. All exchange money -
either British travellers cheques or Cypriot travellers cheques
and cash. If you are changing traveller cheques don't
forget your passports. Banks are open from 08:00 - 12:30
Monday to Friday. Please note: the banks are closed on
Saturday and Sunday and afternoons. There is also a cash
machine (hole in the wall facilities ) in Pegeia Village, at the
Bank of Cyprus.
Behind the church you will find Pegeia's answer to Aladdin's
cave, also know as Phillipo's Supermarket - everything your
heart desires from yoghurt, milk, bread, olives,
fresh fruit and veg, kitchen sinks microwaves ovens, cuddly
toys, sets etc - well, go and see for yourselves!
